BELIEFS

With Christians of other communions, United Methodists confess belief in the triune God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Grace pervades our understanding of Christian faith and life. By grace we mean the undeserved, unmerited, and loving action of God in human existence through the ever-present Holy Spirit.

Faith and Good Works - We see God's grace and human activity working together in the relationship of faith and good works. God's grace calls forth human response and spiritual discipline.

Mission and Service - We maintain that personal salvation always involves Christian mission and service to the world. By joining heart and hand, we assert that personal faith, evangelical witness, and Christian social action are reciprocal and mutually reinforcing. Scriptural holiness entails more than personal piety; love of God is always linked with love of neighbor, a passion for justice, and renewal of life in the world.

Nature and Mission of the Church - We emphasize the nurturing and serving function of the Church’s Christian fellowship. The personal experience of faith is nourished in the worshipping community.

The Wesleyan Quadrilateral - We are not a doctrinal church, but affirm the guidance of our church's founder, John Wesley, that our preaching and our teaching be "grounded in scripture, informed by Christian tradition, enlivened by experience, and tested by reason."

HISTORY

Methodism in the United States celebrated its 200th birthday in 1984. Trinity United Methodist Church was organized in 1958, when a retired pastor knocked on doors all over Morro Bay and Los Osos and started the Methodist churches in both communities.

The first sanctuary was built in 1960, and the education wing in 1965. The A-Frame sanctuary was split in half and expanded in 1976. Again in 1995 it was expanded, when the fellowship hall, foyer, offices, and upstairs rooms were built.

Today we are a vibrant community of faith where people of all ages find encouragement and spiritual renewal for their Christian living.

Over 50 years serving the Los Osos and surrounding communities through Faith & Fellowship!
