We trace our heritage to John Wesley who founded the Methodist movement in England to augment what he saw as a lax and casual attitude toward God in the Anglican Church. Unlike many other Church founders, John Wesley stressed the importance of both growing a lively and profound faith in Jesus Christ and living that faith in action by caring for the poor, the sick, and the outsider - equal emphasis on Personal Holiness and Social Holiness.
The Methodist Church in America was founded on Christmas Eve 1784. The United Methodist Church has followed that tradition throughout all of the transformations that have brought it to its present form. For more information on the United Methodist Church visit www.umc.org.
At a Special General Conference in February legislation was passed that challenges some of those foundational principles. The United Methodists of Trinity UMC Los Osos, the California-Pacific Annual Conference, and the Western Jurisdiction remain pledged to ministry to, with, and for all of God's children.
