    The heavens are telling the glory of God;
        The earth proclaims God’s handiwork.
    Let the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts
        Be acceptable in the sight of God.

Opening Prayer
    O God, whose Son cleansed the Temple of those who would stain it: In your mercy behold your Church, that we may he neither stained by our own sins nor held in bondage by the sins of others, that being freed and cleansed from both, we might pay our service to you; Through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God for ever and ever. Amen.                                          [Leonine Sacramentary; alt, TJC]
