    We who have known failure and defeat are summoned to walk with Jesus to Calvary
        We who face weakness and temptation gather in the name of one who overcame them.
    It is hard to recognize the bearer of sorrows who was wounded for our transgressions.
        Yet we seek salvation in one despised and rejected, from whom there came no violence

             or deceit.
    Let us come believing what we have heard and acting on what has been revealed to us.
        We trust Christ to deliver and save us, to teach us obedience and faithfulness. Amen.

Prayer
Almighty God, your Son Jesus Christ was lifted high upon the cross so that he might draw the whole world to himself. Grant that we, who glory in this death for our salvation, may also glory in his call to take up our cross and follow him, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
